We had a great time camping, despite the weather this weekend! I think universally, everyone had great fun. I have to start out by thanking the great group of parents that came out with us...Dr. Lee (the OF patrol leader), Mr. Bogle, Mr. Rekieta, Mr. Peterson (our bus driver), Mr. Key (our trailer puller), Mr. Fisk, Mr. Virden, Mr. OBrien, Mr. Plavidal, and Mr. B. Smith, and Mr. Goldthwaite. We shot rockets from a new location this year due to the overgrowth of mesquite trees in the large field we normally shoot in (anyone have a brush/tree shredder?). The wind cooperated with us and we only lost one rocket...the first one that was launched disappeared into the clouds never to be seen again! I hope your boys had as much fun as we did. Now just a couple of reminders about unpacking and cleaning up after a wet, muddy weekend... Get everything out of closed containers! Unpack your tent and gear now. If your tent is still in the bag, go get it now and hang it up someplace to dry then come back and finish reading this. If you still have clothes in your backpack (especially if it is still in your car), go get it and dump it out someplace that your mom wont kill you for (in other words, not in the kitchen...in the garage). Once you have all the wet things out to be washed or hung out to dry, check on your boots. Our friends at Backwoods recommend that you scrub clean your boots as soon as possible to prevent further damage to them. Mud, as slick as it was at Worth Ranch, is still an abrasive and will slowly tear up the fabric of your boots as you continue to wear them. Take a moment now, before you go to bed tonight, to clean your boots with a scrub brush, soap, and water. Then leave them out to dry. It may take a while for them to dry due to the rainy conditions forecasted for this week, but make the effort! If you have really clean boots and your mother really likes you, you might be able to get her to let you put them in the dryer on low heat. Plan on hearing a lot of banging around at your house...especially if you dont ask her first. Full disclosure - we havent done all of these steps at our house either. Showers and homework came first. This weekend we also promoted a new staffer to Senior Patrol Leader. Sam V. is now the SPL of Troop 17. Thank you to Michael W. for your service in that position. Several other moves were made as well as some will be announced on Tuesday (remember, you must be present to win). Once they are all announced, we will update the online roster. Thank you all for your support and see you on Tuesday, Mr. Turner
