We need to know TODAY if your son is interested in going to Philmont in the summer of 2018. We will be visiting with all of the eligible Scouts tonight. We dont need firm commitments, we just need to know if we are committing to one or two crews. Minimum crew size is 7 (5 scouts + 2 adults), max size is 12. If we have 13 or 14 people wanting to go, thats one crew (someone always backs out!). 15 gets questionable. 16 could be 2 crews and so on. National requirements: 14 years old the day you arrive at Philmont and meet the height/weight guidelines (including adults). T17 requirements: 14 years old on Jan 1, 2018, 1st Class rank before July 1, 2018 and camped with the troop at least two times in the 6 months prior to the trip. Troop requirements can be reviewed, Philmont requirements are set in stone. Cost is roughly $975 (before fundraising). Dates arent set until we know if we have crews or not (they are given out in a lottery system). Philmont Scout Ranch is the Boy Scouts of Americas largest national High Adventure Base. Its 34 staffed camps and 55 trail camps provide an unforgettable adventure in the high country along hundreds of miles of rugged, rocky trails. More than 1 million Scouts, Venturers, and leaders have experienced the adventure of Philmont since the first camping season in 1939. Throughout its existence, conscientious attention to low-impact camping techniques has helped maintain the Ranchs wilderness. Philmont Scout Ranch provides an unforgettable adventure in backpacking, with land along hundreds of miles of rugged, rocky trails. Philmont Scout Ranch programs feature the best of the Old West - horseback riding, burro packing, gold panning, chuckwagon dinners and interpretive history - with exciting challenges for today, such as rock climbing, burro racing, mountain biking and .30-06 rifle shooting. Its an unbeatable recipe for fast-moving fun and the outdoors. Philmont Scout Ranch allows Scouts to camp with their own units as well as meet and share experiences with other crews from all across the United States of America and countries. A trip to Philmont is an opportunity for fellowship that is unparalleled anywhere in the United States of America. Again, we are just looking to see if we need to have slots for 7-12 people or 16-24. This includes the required 2 adults per crew. There are currently 18 scouts that will be age eligible to attend. Chances are, all of the adults will be first timers. Thats nothing to be frightened about. We were all a first timer once. Weve got good notes and plenty of gear and advice to share. If you and/or your son are interested, simply reply to my email or register on the troop website, TODAY. See you tonight, Mr. Turner
